5 mindset breakthroughs to successfully transition out of your job today

Mindset is a word that is bandied about the online entrepreneur space a lot.

And with good reason.

I truly believe it’s the one thing you must master before you can achieve true success. Not having the right mindset can prevent even the most gifted woman from making her mark in the world. I’ve seen so many talented women who have hesitated in getting their gift out to the world simply because they had some mindset blocks and limiting beliefs that stopped them in their tracks.

There’s nothing worse than watching everyone else race ahead of you whilst you struggle to get out of your own way.

And believe me, when I say I’ve been in my own way as much as the next person.

But, for me, once I made my success non negotiable I had no option but to shake up my mindset. And that was no mean feat as I’ve had more than my fair share of knockbacks in life (I’ll fill you in another time maybe but now I’m so over that and no longer available for anything but ease)

So, I would like to share with you 5 mindset shifts I made in quitting my 9-5 and starting my freedom business.

  1. Its possible for everyone else but not for me.

Yes, this was me.

Whinging and moaning about how success was possible for everyone else but me.

How I wasn’t young enough, pretty enough, thin enough. You name it, if I could use it as an excuse I did. I was even a little bit resentful and dare I say, triggered (*hangs head in shame) by any success stories I saw.

I would think its easy for them.

They were probably born under the right star sign, they started at the right time, they are years younger etc.

It was making me weary.

It was only when I decided I would be inspired by these success stories and to learn from them (sometimes directly by working with them) that things started to shift.

I realised that because it was possible for them, it was possible for me too. Their success was their success and mine was mine. I’ve always loved seeing women succeed and be their best selves. There is absolutely no need to be triggered.

So if that’s you, you should know that if its possible for them or me, its possible for you too.

The only thing separating you from the others is that the others are willing to do what it takes. I’ve observed many and the thing they do differently is they commit.

They don’t to and fro with their business dreams. Wanting it one minute and making every excuse under the sun the next. They decided to go wholeheartedly after their dreams and the Universe rewards them wholeheartedly for doing so.

Do the same and get the same rewards.

2. It should be easier

I remember when I first went into business, I was a complete technophobe. I literally just had a half decent phone (my philosopy at that time was that phones are taking over the world and destroying human relationships and as a sign of protest I kept a really old phone!).

I had sleepless nights about my email system going down and having no idea how to fix it (even though I had an IT guy, the technophobe gremlin was doing overtime in my head!)

So you can imagine, I was the least likely candidate to start an online business where technology changes quick and there are lots of tools to get your head around.

Even thinking about technology gave me palpitations and the number of times I was tempted to throw the computer out of the window when something wouldn’t sync right or do what it was supposed to.

So what changed?

My mindset of course.

I decided to follow Jim Rohn’s advice “don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better”. I had to stop wishing for things to be easy and uplevel my skills and my mindset.

Fast forward a few years and I built my own recent website and technology is my new BFF. In fact, I’m constantly looking for new ways to leverage it.

Oh and my phone is no longer ancient either.

So, if you are thinking along the lines I was. Stop.

Instead think how can I do better?

Where can I  improve?

And most importantly repeat to yourself “I will master this challenge” and then go ahead and do it.

3. You can’t treat it as a hobby -  its time to get serious

This is a common mindset block that I see many women display.

They have this business which is a side hustle or side gig and they treat it as such because that’s the safe option.

They play lip service to the business, checking in every so often but not having a consistent action plan for moving forward and no clear goals to work towards.

Of course, they want to make an impact in the world but in reality they just end up playing small.

Not putting in the time commitment, not being consistent, to-ing and fro-ing with their business dreams. Not doing what it takes.

Well guess what, if you treat it as a hobby that’s what it becomes. If this is you, get serious now.

Commit to making it happen.

Put a proper strategy in place, clear goals and move towards those. Every. Single. Day.

Use my goals worksheet to help you with this if you haven’t already.

4. Believe that anything is possible.

Henry Ford said it perfectly when he said “Whether you think you can or think you can’t you’re right” and I think he sums things up perfectly.

If you’re telling yourself all these things about why it isn’t possible for you, but is for everyone else, then that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Remember thoughts become things.

It’s time to develop your “Anything is possible” mindset and the best way to do that is with DAILY mindset work.

Yes, this is something that you have to do daily.

No ifs, no buts, no excuses.

You might not see results immediately but if you show up for yourself every day, then the shifts will happen and you will have that solid mindset before you know it.

So start today. It’s really easy and you can use a number of methods.

Ones that work well for me are affirmations, journaling and meditation but you can adjust your routine to what works for you. If you’re unsure where to start with this, you can download my Success Mindset Workbook here for less than a price of a cup of coffee.

5. I can do it alone

This is something I struggled with massively as for some reason I felt I had to do everything myself.

I had to figure it out by myself, learn everything myself and then implement everything myself in an area of business I had no previous experience in.

As you can imagine when running two businesses, this led to a lot of overwhelm, frustration and exhaustion.

When I finally realised I didn’t have to go it alone it was a downright relief. I now get the support when I need it. I work with Coaches and Mentors who can help me get my business built quicker and without struggle and overwhelm.

I firmly believe that as women we can have it all but we can’t do it all. And we shouldn’t have to.
